Canteen

Lunch with the girls...

In Beyonce's words : "I love my husband, but there is nothing like a conversation with a woman that understands you... I grow so much from those conversations."

The ladies and I decided to try mid-week lunch in downtown Johannesburg and Maboneng Precinct just seemed the obvious choice. It was a beautiful sunny day, so the Canteen restaurant quad was just perfect. We wanted a quiet place, a place we could catch-up and laugh and just enjoy each others company over a good meal.

Good Food Mission leads us to Harties

A few weekends ago, my partner in crime and I set off on one of our 'Good Food Missions'. This time around, the road led us down to Hartebeespoort dam. It was a beautiful, warm Saturday afternoon, perfect for a drive out of the city and what better way to spend the day than fine dining down by the dam.

We decided to have our late lunch at Silver Orange Bistro. A charming little restaurant on the corner of the R512 and R27 in Hartebeespoort, a mere 40mins drive out of Jo'burg. What a brilliant idea that turned out to be. I had one of the best dining experiences I have had in years, wow ! Their food is absolutely delicious...and pretty to look at too.

Silver Orange Bistro, Hartebeespoort.

The Menu

Gorgonzola Fillet
I skipped out on starters as I already had my eye on something on the dessert menu. I had the above Gorgonzola Fillet, medium done... My goodness, heaven in my mouth. It was soft, tasty and succulent, I absolutely love cheese so the gorgonzola addition was a bonus for me. It added a tasty, sharp contrast and the dish was balanced off by creamy mash and crunchy vegetables with a red wine reduction.

Sirloin with Black Peppercorn Sauce
My partner had the above Sirloin with Black Peppercorn Sauce also medium done, served on creamy mash potato.  I can not fault this dish at all. I tried a bit of his food as well and it was equally as delicious.

Dessert

Red Velvet Cake

We had a wonderful afternoon at Silver Orange Bistro and will definitely be going back. Pop in there next time you are down in the Hartebeespoort area and are hungry for a delicious gourmet treat. ;-)

Hot Air Ballooning... Up, Up and Away...

There are moments in your life that defy words - and a Sunrise Hot Air Balloon ride over the Hartebeespoort Dam and picturesque Magaliesberg mountains with my hubby was one of those moments for me.

It has got to be one of the most memorable experience of my life. It truly is breath taking.

Pre-flight: My hubby and I, bright and early at the Hartebeespoort starting point.

Up up and away... "Until we evolve and grow our own wings, hot air balloon flights are the closest thing humankind will ever get to the awe-inspiring tranquillity and majesty of flying". I am glad to have experienced this and couldn't have chosen a better companion to share the magic with. This experience will stay with us forever.

Soaring over Hartebeespoort Dam with the beautiful Magaliesberg Mountain range in the distance.

Round "Lennon Sunnies"....

Round "Lennon Sunnies" go Glam...

One of the biggest accessory trends spotted on the Spring 2012/2013 runways happened to be one of my very favorites: bright, perfectly circular sunnies. It's a little John Lennon with a bit of '90s-cool thrown in.

Designers like Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg, Erdem, and Prada showed round shades in all sorts of sizes, colors, and prints. It's a fun, daring look with a decidedly vintage vibe. They are bound to make one stand out.

Wish List:  A few of my favorites...

Arm Candy trend... Stack 'em up.

My take on the Arm Candy trend...

What I love about this trend is that it's fun, it's timeless and there are no rules.  Just stack 'em up.

Get the look by mixing and matching different arm pieces, of different colors and textures together.

Flea markets and vintage stores are a good place to shop for unique pieces on a budget. However if you are looking for a slightly more high-end touch, plenty of department stores and jewelers carry suitable pieces to put this trend together.

Visit to the Lion Park

Take a walk on the wild side and spend the day at one of Newsweeks ''Top 100 Tourist Destinations in The World'', interacting with The King of The Jungle and some of natures most majestic animals.

How amazing is it that just a mere 10mins drive out of Johannesburg, in Honeydew with the city skyline still in sight, you can get to cuddle, pet and walk with Lions and Cheetahs...? The park is home to several giraffes, zebras as well various other antelope.

It is a memorable outdoor experience for the entire family to enjoy.

We had packed a picnic basket and really made a day of it.

Self drive Price: R160 per Adult , R80 per Child

Gap Year abroad... Taking the leap.

A gap year is an expression associated with taking time out to travel between life stages. It is also known as a sabbatical, time off, time out and a year out, referring to a period of time (not necessarily 12 months) in which people disengage from curricular education and/or work and undertake activities such as travelling, volunteering or working abroad.

My Gap Year Experience:

In the beginning of 2009 I packed my bags and moved to the UK. I had always dreamt of living and working abroad and felt the time had come for me to take that leap. I obtained a Two Year Working Holiday Visa and was fired up for my new adventure.

Before boarding my flight to Heathrow London, I was filled with so much excitement, I knew my life would never be the same again. I was stepping out of my comfort zone and ready to take on the world, it felt like a rebirth.

Travelling is my passion, I love meeting new people and experiencing different places. As exciting as it was, I must admit stepping out on my own and leaving everything that I knew was a bit nerve wrecking, but I wanted the experience so bad I didn't look back.

Living in a first world country was amazing, the infrastructure developments, the ease of getting around. I got to do alot of travelling when I was in the UK. Trips into Europe were a breeze...
I did a few odd jobs here and there and was earning in Pounds. I could get to finance my way around the UK and Europe quite easily that way.

I got to watch my favorite team play live at Old Trafford... Glory Glory Man United !!!

I had the time of my life abroad and would really reccommend taking a Gap year or some Time off to anybody. We get so caught in the Rat-race...and living life as we think it ought to be. Set-out your own game plan, Do You. Life is too short to not pay attention to your deepest desires. Take that Sabbatical, It will be the best gift you ever give to yourself.

I made some life-long friends and memories in my year and a half in the UK. If I could do it again, I absolutely would !

Vertical Stripes Trending...

Stripes, whether Vertical or Horizontal are a Timeless and Classic fashion trend. Each year we are re-introduced to stripes with a fab and different twist.

We all know Horizontal Stripes are known to create a wide silhouette to the eye, where as Vertical Stripes are said to create a more elongated and slimmer silhouette. So it's no train smash which stripes will all be rocking Post-Winter...

I am attracted to Bold Statement Prints and Vertical Stripes happen to be my latest obsession. I am loving Stripes everything...Striped Blazers, Tops, Pants.... even Striped Furniture.
